The Medieval Siege Society is a group with a diverse membership. We are family-friendly and welcome members of all ages. We even have some members that are second or third generation re-enactors.
We currently have a membership of several hundred, ranging from children to young adults to those whose ages we aren't allowed to mention!
Having a large society like the MSS means there's usually members geographically close to you, so you're never too far from your friends.
When you join the MSS you have the opportunity to develop skills both new, old and forgotten. Depending on your interests, you can learn skills such as; sword fighting, medieval cookery on an open fire, sewing and dress making, archery and even helping The Sappers out with the trebuchet.
If you are new to re-enactment it may be best to join as a day member first to see if you like it. This is currently set at £4 a day for a maximum of two days and covers public liability insurance & other administrative costs. However, this amount is deducted from your fee if you join as a full member within the same year.
Once you have paid your full membership it's a good idea to come along to a training session (if you wish to be a Man At Arms) or a social (for other roles) before attending an event. Modern clothing is perfectly acceptable at these, and time is given over for training new members. As this is not always possible, especially at certain times of year, you are still welcome to join at any event. We will always do our best to help you feel part of the group from day one.
