 Information for Clients Minimize

The Medieval Siege Society Limited, based in the South East, is available to work at sites all around the United Kingdom and beyond. The Society specialises in the recreation of medieval life and combat. With members whose range of expertise covers everything from authentic combat techniques through to cookery and music. We are able to offer a complete medieval experience to our clients and the public at large.

We normally organise our battles using only our members, but we are also used to working with other re-enactment groups and organising multi group choreographed battles, such as 'England's Medieval Fayre at Herstmonceux Castle.

The MSS have organised events at venues managed by The National Trust, English Heritage and at privately owned properties. A full list of locations for this year is in our calendar of events.

We work under extensive safety rules designed to promote the safe enjoyment of our events, both for our visitors and for ourselves. We carry £5M public liability insurance. Risk assessments are carried on all aspects of our recreation and can be provided easily upon request. All members are formally required to demonstrate that they can safely use their weapons before they are allowed to take part in any mock combat.

Our colourful siege camp of Pavilion, Burgundian and other authentic medieval tents complete with banners, musicians, cooking fires and soldier's families provide a backdrop for our events.

We field a force of longbow archers equipped with safe blunted arrows for battle or skirmish and also run popular archery tournaments using sharp arrows and targets sympathetic to the period and place.

There is also a contingent of arbalists with both hand spanned and mechanically spanned crossbows

The gun train has wheeled field pieces and hand cannon. Siege works, incorporating the use of pyrotechnics, are provided by the sappers, who also operate our siege engine.

Our Men at Arms cover the full range from ragged peasant levy billmen, armed with adapted farm implements, to swordsmen and fully armoured knights on foot.

You can walk around our siege camp and see how people would have lived on campaign. Someone may be cooking a meal, caring for weapons or even playing musical instruments. Members are friendly and approachable and welcome questions from the general public.

All aspects of late medieval life are covered.

Our dress, weaponry and equipment are made to a very high standard of authenticity.

The Medieval Siege Society is the largest late medieval re enactment society in the UK.

It is also a member of the National Association of Re-enactment Societies (NAReS).

For further information on booking the Society, please send an email to events@medieval-siege-society.co.uk, or download our Client Information Pack.
